July 15th, 2024 - Back to the Salt Mines
New Boss, Playground Bullies, and a Dose of Love Bombing
The Daily Huddle
Well, folks, today was a classic case of back to the ol’ salt mines. Not much on the to-do list, but there’s a new sheriff in town handling the transformation work. She’s meeting with the Big Boss, and they’re tossing my fate around like a hot potato. One more month on the clock? Maybe till the end of the year? Heck, I’d throw in until 2076 if it means keeping the paychecks rolling in. Not much work out there, and these pockets ain’t getting any deeper.
Ran into the playground bully today. He’s been pretty toned down lately, and for the first time, he admitted he might have been wrong. Can you believe it? I half expected him to sprout wings and fly off, but no, he’s still the same ol’ sales guy. I suspect he’ll be back with his “we can do it” mantra soon enough.
On a brighter note, had a chat with the bully’s competition. Just the nicest folks, and guess what? They’re not “yes” men! Good communication is like a secret sauce for success, and I’m looking forward to working with these straight shooters.
Sifting Through the Scraps
Today was a mix of money woes and minor victories. Paid the rent, tallied up my spending to a whopping 10k for the family, and texted The Mother to say I’m tapped out for the month. She wants to talk on Thursday. Oh, joy. And there’s a new lease contract on my desk—should I sign it? Decisions, decisions.
Had an interesting run-in with some new knowledge on narcissistic behavior and “love bombing”—like when Jack bombards Keeley with affection in Ted Lasso. Turns out, I might have been love bombed once too. Felt like a rock star in those five-star hotels, but now it’s all a mess of abuse and regrets. Who knew being adored could have such a dark side?
Lessons from the Trenches
On a lighter note, continued my journey with “Atomic Habits” while on the treadmill. This chapter’s all about habit stacking. Added flossing and a 30-minute gym routine to my daily grind. Did it yesterday and felt great! Today, though, dinner with a client is on the agenda—a small sacrifice for a job extension.
So, what did I learn today? Well, I’m a team member, I’m not broken, and dang it, I’m a flosser now! As Ted Lasso would say, “The harder you work, the more luck you get!” And ain’t that the truth. Keep hustlin’, keep flossing, and keep finding those silver linings, folks.
So long, and remember, a little kindness and a lot of hard work go a long way!
